Ben Avon is a hidden gem, a small community that sits just 6 miles of downtown Pittsburgh along the Ohio River, convenient to both I-79 and I-279. A tightly woven neighborhood, the borough of Ben Avon was established nearly 100 years ago and while its roots and homes are historic, the area is vibrant and its century old homes take center stage.
Along the small business corridor sits a barber shop, local printer, The Music Note, and Anchor & Anvil, a local coffee shop and community gathering space. Avon Park sits on a hillside just north of Ben Avon and is equipped with newer playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts. Its walking trail winds through the park, through a ravine, and ends along Ohio River Boulevard.
The Avon Club, a women's social and service organization, organizes the annual Fall Festival right along Church Avenue as well as a biyearly Holiday House Tour - a celebrated event featuring Ben Avon's beautiful residences. The community pairs with the adjacent neighborhood, Emsworth, for its annual Memorial Day Parade.
Ben Avon is one of five local communities that make up the Avonworth School District. Along with Ben Avon Heights, Emsworth, Kilbuck, and Ohio Township, the borough is desirable not only for its convenient location to areas both north and south of Pittsburgh but because of its mid-sized and exceptional school district.
